Detoxifying / Cleansing
Detoxifying and cleansing foods support the body’s ordinary pathways of digestion, elimination, hydration, and nourishment. Ayurveda focuses on protecting agni and reducing ama through simple, appropriate food—not extreme cleanses.
The liver, kidneys, digestive tract, lungs, skin, and lymphatic system already process and eliminate waste. Foods can support these ordinary functions through fiber, hydration, bitter flavors, nourishment, and regular elimination; they do not pull unnamed “toxins” from the body.
Ayurveda describes metabolic residue as ama and centers cleansing on balanced agni, simple freshly prepared meals, appropriate spices, and rest. Extreme fasting, purging, laxatives, or restrictive detoxes can disturb electrolytes, blood sugar, digestion, and the nervous system. Pregnancy, eating-disorder history, diabetes, kidney or liver disease, and medication use require professional guidance.
