Mineral-Rich Sweetener
Mineral-rich sweeteners may retain small amounts of minerals compared with refined sugar, but they remain concentrated added sugars. Ayurveda considers the sweet taste nourishing while emphasizing quality, quantity, digestion, and context.
Sweeteners such as jaggery, molasses, and some less-refined sugars may retain small amounts of iron, potassium, or other minerals. Those amounts do not turn them into major mineral sources, and they still count as concentrated added sugars.
Ayurveda recognizes the sweet taste as nourishing and grounding, particularly for Vata and depleted tissues, but excess sweetness can increase heaviness and Kapha or disturb blood sugar. Choose for flavor and culinary purpose, use modestly, and receive minerals primarily from whole foods. Diabetes, insulin resistance, or iron deficiency deserves guidance beyond simply changing sweeteners.
