Plant-Based Protein

Plant-based protein foods include legumes, soy foods, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and selected vegetables. Variety, portions, preparation, and total daily intake help provide essential amino acids and comfortable digestion.

Beans, lentils, peas, soy foods, nuts, seeds, and whole grains can provide substantial plant-based protein along with fiber, minerals, and plant compounds. Eating a varied diet across the day helps provide the essential amino acids the body needs.

Ayurveda pays close attention to preparation because many protein-rich plants are also dry, dense, or gas-forming. Soaking, rinsing, thorough cooking, warm serving temperatures, suitable oils, and spices can support agni and settle Vata. Protein needs vary with body size, age, pregnancy, activity, recovery, and health conditions.
