Reducing

Reducing foods and preparations lessen heaviness, excess richness, and stagnation. Ayurveda uses langhana to balance Kapha while protecting strength, nourishment, and the nervous system from excessive restriction.

Reducing foods bring lighter, drier, warmer, or more stimulating qualities when meals and tissues feel overly heavy, oily, or stagnant. Vegetables, legumes, bitter greens, and simpler cooking methods often fit this category.

Ayurveda calls the broader approach langhana, frequently used to balance excess Kapha. Reducing should not mean starving, shaming the body, or eliminating nourishment. Too much restriction can aggravate Vata, weaken tissues, and disrupt metabolism. The right approach supports energy, comfortable digestion, and clarity while respecting health conditions and eating-disorder history.
