Friday appeared to be a picture perfect day for Full Moon Yoga by the fire, but Mother Nature thought something different. Just minutes before people arrived for class, the skies opened up with little to no warning. Some people came and went and others stayed. So we did the next best thing and took class inside the studio.
I’m not going to lie; I was truly disappointed as I was so excited to teach by the big beautiful fire as the full moon arrived. I even woke up in the middle night a couple times and gazed out the window at the beautiful fire that continued to burn through the night. I felt a deep sadness that we were unable to enjoy the night by the fire. I’m usually pretty good with adjusting to the constant changes that happen in life, but for some reason I couldn’t seem to let this feeling go. I believe there is a bigger meaning as to why I have struggled to shake this feeling off. It is one of the many lessons in learning to let go of expectations and roll with the changes.
The full moon is a time to harvest; a time to pick the fruit of our efforts, let go of what did not ripen and to weed our internal gardens. It’s a time to consider where we spend our energy, what we want to cultivate and what we want to let go.
Over the next week during classes we will be discussing and practicing Aparigraha, the third Yama. Aparigraha means non-possessiveness, non-attachment, or non-grasping. This gem invites us to let go of the forces that weigh us down, that are no longer serving us.
I invite you to join me this week for a class. I am offering a special coupon to attend Thursday’s night class Mindfulness Movement and Meditation, for $5. Class format generally start with some very gentle yoga and stretching for 30 minutes followed by pranayama (breath work), and guided meditation and relaxation. This week’s class I will be offering 30 minutes of gentle yoga followed by 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra. There is limited space so sign up soon to reserve your spot!
