Ayurvedic & Western Perspective
In Ayurveda, this garden frittata offers a beautiful balance for summer and early fall, when zucchini, chard and basil are often arriving together in abundance. Moist, cooling zucchini helps soften excess heat, while the bitter and astringent qualities of chard bring lightness to the meal. Fresh basil adds a warming, aromatic spark that awakens agni and balances the cooler vegetables. Eggs, mozzarella and ghee provide grounding, building nourishment, making the dish especially satisfying for Vata or anytime steadier energy is needed.
Western nutrition supports this same sense of balance. Chard and zucchini offer fiber, magnesium, vitamin C and vitamin K, while basil adds protective plant compounds and plenty of fresh flavor. Eggs provide protein, choline and B vitamins, and mozzarella contributes additional protein and calcium. Together, they create a colorful, satisfying meal that works just as well for breakfast as it does for lunch or a light dinner.
From Garden to Skillet
JenZen Note:
This is one of those recipes I love when the garden is offering a little bit of everything and I need an easy way to bring it together. Don’t worry about following the vegetables too precisely—use the tender greens and herbs you have, tuck in a little cheese, and let the season shape the frittata.
