Less is more… No Worries… Just Breathe... These are my mantras and my resolutions.
In my younger years, I always made lists of new year’s resolutions only to fail within three weeks, or a day, then back to my unhealthy habits and routines. What I have learned over the years, making changes to deep rooted habits is a practice. It requires patience and kindness towards yourself. So I keep my resolutions simple, practicing daily these three mantras.
Less is more… Slow and steady wins the race. Take one thing you want to change at a time. Allow yourself the time to incorporate it into your daily routine. When you are ready
No worries… Stress is a big cause (nidana) of dis-ease in our world. Our minds are often creating unnecessary stress by creating stories that we attach to be real. The mind loves to be entertained by our stories and will create bigger ones. I call this monkey-mind. Something that I’m all too familiar with but have trained my mind through yoga, pranayama, and meditation to be a calmer place to be, which has had a huge impact on my mental, emotional and physical health. This leads me to the most important mantra…
JUST BREATHE! Take time each day to intentionally breathe. Our bodies breathe automatically, but often not well due to the stress of life. Although automatic, we have control of the breath. Take a few minutes daily to take in fresh prana, life force and energy through the breath. It is a powerful tool and my number one go to bring in fresh energy, relaxing the mind and body, and letting go of the things that no longer serve me.
Join me on Thursday's beginning January 11, 2024 at 6:45PM for a new class to begin, Mindfulness Movement & Meditation. We will begin with some gentle movement to get the body prepared to sit for pranayama, breathwork, followed by meditation. Over the weeks you will be introduced to various breathing and meditation techniques to discover what works best for you.
As a special New Year's gift to you, I made a video for you today! The beginning is an introduction to Dirga breath, three-part breath followed by sun salutations and hips/legs practice to heat things up and create juiciness to combat the cold, dry weather.
